Alfredrich was founded in 1977 after acquiring a few purebred dogs. One of them was a Dalmatian. It was almost as a side kick at first. A few years back, I had totally fallen for a Dalmatian I saw running free in an estate Park. That vision always stayed with me just as a vision of an Arabian horse galloping across the field.
The reality was that my partner Al Kay's interest was more for the ancient breeds like the Saluki which he had acquired in Norway during a posting there. We eventually compromised for something hardier for our Canadian winters; the Borzoi. That breed was incidently, the number 1 dog in the Country that year. We all had seen Jean Harlow coming down those long staircases with a pair of Borzois, another vision.
The versatility of Poodles seen at the shows was completley fascinating to me. They were on the move, friendly and showy. We just had to get some of them and learn how to groom. And we did. The episode of these breeds were short lived and totally eclipsed with the joy and fun I had with my Dalmatian, Am/Can Ch Evomack's Tsar of Carlsbad, "Tsar". Photo: Tsar won the Dalmatian Club of Canada National Specialty in 1980. Pictured Left to Right: Alfred Kay, Judge, Tsar and Richard Millaire.
For a kennel name I had thought of Mayerling after that famous Russian mansion or palace from a movie. Of course this inspiration was influenced by our ownership of the Borzois. Mayerling was refused by the Canadian Kennel Club so I had to start over on my search. I saw how other people put names together to form their kennel name. I then thought of Alfredrich, a combination of "Alfred" and "Rich" for Richard. I wanted Al's name first to give him some kind of retribution for the Dalmatian breed taking over.
We kept a daughter of Tsar and also acquired Am/Can Ch Beachcomber Liberty Belle a liver bitch daughter of the top dalmatian in the US at the time Ch Deltalyn Decoupage. We bred a few Champions, showed Tsar in the U.S. and won the National in Canada in 1980. Later we acquired a Melody Dynamatic son which was to be bred to Melody Penny Lane. He was slow to do the job so Penny was bred to Tsar instead and produced the "Sunkist Sisters": Am/Can Ch Sunkist Singalong - "Phoebe", and Am/Can Ch Sunkist Sugar Plum - "Bridget".
We loved Phoebe (Singalong) who was an elegant liver bitch and decided to breed her to Count Miguel of Tuckaway. That pairing produced our all time Top Producing BIS BISS Ch.,Alfredrich Handsome Tall N Dark, "Chum". After that, life was never the same and still isn't.

Alfredrich dogs traits can be traced by the influence of the earlier mentioned Arabian horses; showy, versatile and dogs on the move like Poodles. Like they say, everything happens for a reason. I now co-own a Grooming Shop and am putting some past skills to work.
Our web site shows the development of the Alfredrich line with Chum's accomplishments as well as the accomplishments of his kids. You'll imagine yourselves on the course of what one would say, the pursuit of the American Dream.
Al has been a big contributor to Alfredrich however he is no longer active with the Dalmatians. Further developement of Alfredrich and this web site will be pursued by me alone.

This is, I believe, the first picture of myself with a dog.
